BFGI Scholarship Test gets huge response; more than 5000 students appeared

Baba Farid Group of Institutions has, announced ‘BFGI Scholarship & Concession Policy-2012’ worth Rs.1 Crore. Taking this initiative further BFGI conducted Scholarship Test was organized for the students of class 10^th and 12^th on 19^th February 2012, which got huge response and the total number of students crossed 5000. The students from not only different states of Punjab but also from neighboring states like Haryana, Rajasthan, etc appeared for the test. In this test, students achieving 85% or more marks will get 100%, students achieving 80% or more marks will get 50%, students achieving 75% or more marks will get 25%, students achieving 70% or more marks will get 15% concession in the tuition fee. Besides this students achieving 1^st position will get a Laptop, 2^nd position will get a Desktop Computer, 3^rd position will get a Digital Camera and next 20 positions will get Wrist Watches as consolation. All these prizes will be given separately for position holders from 10^th and 12^th classes.

The Question Paper of this scholarships test was based upon Aptitude, English and General Knowledge. Free bus facility for students within the radius of 100 km was made available, registration of all the students participating in the tests was also free of cost.

On this occasion, Managing Director of BFGI, Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal gave best wishes to the students and told that this Scholarship Test will give double benefit to the students by providing the opportunity to avail the scholarship/concession on the basis of percentage achieved in the Scholarship Test.

Green Tech Fest of BFGI magnetizes large numbers of visitors on its second day also

The second day of the Green Tech Fest was organized by Baba Farid Group of Institutions also, as enthusiastic as the first day, where large number of schools’/ colleges’ Principals, Teachers and students visited the fest.

Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Managing Director, BFGI welcomed to the Chief Guest of the occasion, Mr.Tajinderpal Singh Sidhu, Chief Executive, Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA). As the special guests, Bargedor A. Raj. Kapoor, Col. J.S.Gundara, Dr. Jasvir Singh Hundal, Principal Giani Zail Singh Regional Campus PTU, Mr. Harcharan Singh, District Guidance Counselor, Bathinda and Uminder Datt, Kheti Virasat, Jaito were also present at the event.

Mr. Dhaliwal said that students are the future of any country, so they should take the initiative to promote this concept on the enormous level to save our earth. Mr. Sidhu cherished the gracious and highly praised that this is the first time when such social initiative has been taken by an Educational institute.

“We have established our weapons and recycling stalls for the common people, because of BFGI’s noble and social cause to save our earth. We got tremendously response from the people towards these projects”, said Bargedor A. Raj. Kapoor.

It is worth mentioning that Indian Army and Indian Airforce have participated in this Fest, where more than 10,000 people visited the fest and more than 1500 students participated in the fest to show their talent. For entertaining the crowd, various games, cultural activities, entertainment programs and various stalls offered eatables for the visitors and participants was also the part of the fest. Some live models like Eco-Friendly Refrigerator, Wind saver Demo models, Water purifiers, Hydraculic Robotic, Rain Water Harvesting live models etc were create useful information to the visitors, that how can we protect our environment through eco friendly way.

Mr. Pardeep Sra, Voice of Punjab, Giddha and Malwai Giddha presented by school kids bound the time for a while. The Nukkar Natak’ Mennu Ki, Tennu Ki, Apan no ki’ directed by Mr. Toni Batish also represented the problems of global warming in magnificent way.

In the Poster Making competitions more than 450 students got participated, in which Sanawar, Dashmesh Public School Faridkot, Sidhant, Baba Farid College of Engg. & Tech., Bathinda and Amandeep, Giani Zail Singh Engg. & Tech. got 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd positions respectively.

In the Model Making competitions more than 450 students got participated, where Govt High School Madhir, Baba Farid College Bathinda, Baba Farid College of Engg. & Tech. got 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd positions.

More than 400 students got participated in the Best out of Waste Material competitions, where K.V.5, Bathinda, R.I.E.T., Abohar, and Govt Polytechnic College, Bathinda had 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd positions respectively.

The prime motive of BFGI as an Educational Group is to promote quality education and over all development of the students. As a tradition every year is dedicated to some social and noble cause. Treading the same path, Year 2012 has been dedicated to promote the concept of “LIVE GREEN: STEP TOWARDS BETTER LIVING”. Under this campaign, ‘Green Tech Fest’, is being organized in the premises of BFGI, today.

Managing Director of BFGI, Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal welcomed to the Chief Guest of the opening ceremony of fest, General Anil Verma, Chief of Staff HQ 10 Core. Mr. Verma articulated his worry on the global warming and said this is a unique and great effort of BFGI to take better care of earth but it serves to protect and sustain the natural resources for coming generations

Mr. Dhaliwal thanked to Indian Army and Indian Airforce to establish their stalls first time out of the cantonment area for the common people. Mr. Dhaliwal expressed his concern over environment pollution and extravagant use of natural resources. He said that Post Liberalization, the rapidly growing technology has no doubt smoothened our lives but our ignorance towards nature has played havoc with environment. In order to eradicate this ignorance towards nature, we have to follow some basic precautions.

Baba Farid Group of Institutions has always concentrated upon important but ignored to social issues. Since 2009 each year had been dedicated to a noble and social cause i.e. Social welfare, placements and youth development respectively. Following the tradition BFGI has dedicated year 2012 to LIVE GREEN: Step towards better living. This refers to adopting the nature friendly practices that centre on sources conservation efforts, using natural resources wisely and in general making our actions eco-friendly. Along with the campaigns carried out in various schools, colleges, Institutions and NGO for creating the awareness to the theme, BFGI is organizing a GREEN TECH FEST in the campus on 15^th and 16^th February 2012.

Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, MD, BFGI expressed his concern over environment pollution and extravagant use of natural resources. While addressing a press conference he said that the GREEN TECH FEST is an effort to give boost LIVE GREEN Campaign. It is for the first time that such initiative has been taken by an Educational institute.

The agenda of the GREEN TECH FEST is to sensitize our people towards the need for environmental protection, educate them about global warming and make them aware of alternative energy sources and extraction of energy from garbage and waste material.

It is worth mentioning that Indian Army and Indian Airforce will also be participating in the Fest. Information will also be imparted on these resources and inculcate in people the healthy habits to contribute towards this social cause.

Cash Prizes of Rs. 11000/-, Rs. 5100/- and Rs. 2100/- will be given to the 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd postion holders of Model Making Competition. Attractive Cash prizes will be given to the participants of other competitions. No registration fee will be charged from participants. The students from various streams are invited to participate zealously in these competitions. Baba Farid College received a majestic ray of delight and pride by winning gold medals in Inter Colleges Competitions held at Punjabi University, Patiala. The students proved that apart from the academics BFGI keep on putting efforts in the direction of sports for overall development of the students as well.

Mr. Harpreet Singh, student of BBA semester 4^th and Ms. Neha, student of MA History triumphed gold medals in Taikewando. Harpreet got first position at state level by defeating the winner of Silver medal in Common Wealth Games of Modi College, Patiala and. On the other side, Neha got first position to defeat the student of the college of Samana. Now, both the gold medalists are going to participate in Inter University Competitions being held at Manipur. Both the students gave the credit of their glory to BFGI management to provide such a world level sports facilities.

World Cancer Day celebrates at BFGI

‘World Cancer Day’ is celebrated throughout the world on February 4, to spread awareness about this deadly disease. Baba Farid College of Management and Technology also celebrated this day under the leadership of Dr. Manish Bansal, Director Principal, with the students and the staff members.

This initiative was taken to make the students and staff members aware about the causes of Cancer and precautions to control this fatal disease. Various causes of cancer such as consumption of Tobacco, Smoke Emissions, Intake of impure water, Usage of Insecticides and Pesticides and the exposure to Radiations were discussed.

Baba Farid Group of Institutions has dedicated the Year 2012 to the concept of Live Green. Keeping in alignment with the theme, the role of the pollution caused by Information Technology through the emission of harmful Carbon Dioxide related gases was discussed in depth. How these emissions ultimately become the cause of the deadly disease “Cancer” was explained to the students. In the daily routine, our day starts with electricity and it ends up with the use of Electronic Gadgets. The students were explained that how they can contribute towards the noble cause of eradicating Cancer from our Society by careful usage of Electronic Gadgets in the daily life.

With an aim to go beyond academics, these extra activities are arranged to develop the insights of the students – attaining extra knowledge and their theoretical applications thereof. To continue this tradition, the Department of Geography, Baba Farid College organized a seminar on “Remote Sensing” on January 25, 2012 in BFGI. Prof. Krishan Mohan, Ex- Head, Department of Geography, Punjab University, Chandigarh was the key speaker of the occasion. Dr. Pardeep Kaura, Deputy Director Academics, BFGI welcomed to Prof. Mohan and gave some brief information about the concept of BFGI’s ‘Live Green’. He informed about the future Green Tech Fest which is being organized on 15-16 February, 2012. He said that the scholarship test is being organized on February 19, 2012 for 10^th & 12^th students, under the scholarship & Concession policy 2012 worth Rs. 1 Crore. He also inspired the students to participate these both events.

More than, 500 students of Govt. Rajindra College, Bathinda, Guru Nanak Girls College, Muktsar, Guru Kashi Punjabi University Campus, Talwandi Sabo, Govt. College, Sardargarh, Govt. College, Muktsar and Govt. Barjindra College, Faridkot participated in this seminar with full zeal and enthusiasm.

Prof. Mohan said, “Remote sensing is the acquisition of information about an object or phenomenon, without making physical contact with the object. There are two main types of remote sensing: passive remote sensing and active remote sensing. Remote Sensing data is processed and analyzed with computer software, known as a remote sensing application”. He also threw the light on the techniques of remote sensing and informed that it works on the principle of the inverse problem. He informed that this is the new and interesting field to get more job opportunities.

Sensing its responsibility, BFGI has been dedicated 2012 to promote the concept of ‘LIVE GREEN’- Step towards better living.

To keep this in mind, BFGI campaigning team visited Guru Nanak Dev Public Senior Secondary School, Bathinda, where Mr. B.D. Sharma, Deputy Director Activities put the light on the Live Green concept. He added that the trees are our life saver and the concept of going green evolves a better understanding of the impact of our habits and lifestyles on the environment. Adopting a GREEN lifestyle is not simply an effort to take better care of the earth but it serves to protect our health and to "sustain natural resources for present and future generations”.

The another Live Green team also visited S.S.D. Krishna Vatika School, Bathinda, Dashmesh Public School, Goniana, Guru Nanak Senior Secondary School, Goniana and Govt. High School, Behbal Khurd.

In these schools, quiz competitions were held on the above theme and the prizes and trees for plantation were distributed to the winner students.

BFGI thrills on Lohri Celebration

Bathinda: Baba Farid Group of Institutions celebrated ‘Lohri Function’ on January 13^th, 2012 in the campus organized by Baba Farid College of Management. The main performer of the occasion was Kulwinder Billa, famous Punjabi singer, the function was further taken to a different level with harmonious performances by Jaspooran and Gulrej Khan students’ of BFGI., College’s students also presented Bhangra, Giddha, Choreography, Solo Dance and Songs. The Choreography depicted social evils like Female Feticide in such an astonishing way. The Malwai Giddha presented by school kids was the center of attraction.

Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Managing Director, BFGI, and other guests also shook their legs and rocked the stage on Billa’s melodious songs. The staff members and students were very happy and showed up great enthusiasm by dancing to different tunes.

Mr. Dhaliwal threw the light on the ‘Live Green’ theme of BFGI and said, “The world has fixed amount of non-renewable resources some of which have been already exploited. The greatest threat to future resources come from the things we do today. We are cutting trees blindly without even giving a second thought on how bad impact it poses to our environment. Deforestration causes - Soil erosion, Global Warming, directing the way towards natural calamities like floods. Even ozone layer has largely been depleted due to human actions, the effects of which are catastrophic.”

BFGI’s students visited to Bentex Industrials

With an aim to go beyond academics, the Training and Placement Department of Baba Farid Group of Institutions conducted an industrial visit for the students of MBA IInd semester and PGDBI of Baba Farid College of Management and Technology at Bentex Industrials Private Limited, Mandi Gobindgarh on 08^th September 2011 with an objective to develop an insight of the students about the practical aspects of the processes in the manufacturing industry. Bentex Industrials, established in 1996 is a manufacturer and exporter of complete steel rolling mill plant and machinery. General Manager Bentex Industrials, Mr. Rajan gave an overview to the students about the industry and thereafter the students were sent in batches accompanied by the technical expert to have an exposure of the actual working conditions and processes run inside the plant. Every machine is first designed in CAD system and then sent to manufacturing. If required, machines are also simulated in computer to ensure desired performance and capacity. The students were acquainted with the different types of machines and the technologies used for the production of the machinery. The students took keen interest in the technical session and asked questions to clear off their doubts. Overall, this industrial visit was very fruitful as it increased the practical awareness about the manufacturing sector. This campaign was started from Baba Farid Public Senior Secondary School, Bathinda. Where, Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Managing Director, BFGI informed that every day we come across the concept of “Green” in news, politics, fashion and even technology. It is very easy to get overwhelmed but people lack taking positive steps.

Every day we come across the concept of “GREEN” in news, politics, fashion and even technology. It is very easy to get overwhelmed but people are reluctant to take positive steps to move forward.

So, sensing its responsibility BFGI has started a movement LIVE GREEN: step towards better living. By LIVE GREEN – BFGI not only focuses on promoting greenery and increasing plantation but definition of Green goes beyond the limited parameters also. It aims at achieving the purpose - THINK GREEN, ACT GREEN, EAT GREEN, SHOP GREEN & BUILD GREEN. It refers to adopting the nature friendly practices that focus on conservation efforts, using natural resources wisely and in general making our actions eco- friendly.

A Press Conference was organized by BFGI on January 04, 2012 at Sun city Classic, Bathinda, where, Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Managing Director, BFGI threw the light on ‘LIVE GREEN’ concept. He informed that BFGI has formed an Awareness Campaigning team of dedicated members working towards the promotion of this concept. Campaigning will be done in different schools, colleges and neighboring areas. To aware the society about the optimum use of non-renewable resources BFGI team will visit and associate with Colleges, NGO’s, Schools, Clubs, Private, Government, and Semi Government organizations, so that we can work unitedly towards making the world greener. Literature related to the above mentioned cause will be distributed to the different sections of society.

To encounter the problem of the deforestration BFGI will promote the Tree Plantation under this campaign. BFGI have planned to conduct Conferences, Workshops and Seminars, where eminent Environmentalists of national and international fame will be invited. The various competitive activities like Painting, Photography, Caption Contest, Slogan writing, Poetry, Essay Writing etc will also focus on LIVE GREEN theme and exhibitions of these selected items will be held in order to promote concept on a mass level. BFGI will be organizing a GREEN TECH FEST on 15 and 16 February, 2012. To Promote Organic Farming students and people of entire region will be made aware of benefits of Organic Farming with the help of DEMO FIELDS. To Promote Green Buildings We will construct buildings in such a manner so that electricity, sunlight and other natural resources can be used in optimum manner. He added that we should follow the Holy Gurbani Salok, "Pavan guru paani pitaa, maataa dharat mahat" in our daily life to respect our nature.

BFGI Cricket team brings the laurels at international level to the campus

The two times University winner Baba Farid Group of Institutions Cricket team once again brought the laurels to the campus in a 20-20 cricket match against Central District Kookaburra Club, Queensland, Australia, at international cricket stadium, in Sec. 16, Chandigarh, on December 21, 2011. The Australian team is on 15 days tour in India, to play 7 matches, in which it had played 3 matches with Himachal Pradesh Board, 3 matches with Chandigarh club and 1 with BFGI team. Australian team lost only 2 matches in those one from BFGI team and 2^nd from one of Chandigarh Club.

Australian team had won the toss and had chosen to bat. O Connel Australian captain scored 47 runs and the team scored 121 runs in 20 overs. And in response, BFGI team achieved this target within 19.3 overs and team won the match with the 4 wickets. The partnership between Manil and Prince shifted the scales in the favour of BFGI by scored 42 and 25 respectively. By giving a wonderful performance, Sonu, the fast bowler of BFGI team took 2 wickets. Even, Australian coach Scott Barret and his team captain O Connel also appreciated Mr. Sonu for his astonishing bowling. BFGI team captain Karan, gave the credit of this victory to his team’s hard work and world class facilities provided by Baba Farid Group of Institutions.

Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Managing Director, BFGI applauded the students for their brilliant performance at the international level. He honoured the players for brining fame for college and wished that BFGI cricket team might be played in Ranji Trophy as well as in Indian Cricket Team, very soon. After the lecture, a query session was conducted wherein the students got cleared their doubts and concepts about English Literature. At last Mrs. Navninder Kaur Dhillion, Vice Principal and Ms. Ramandeep Kaur, Head, Department of English thanked Mr. Sharma for sharing and providing valuable inputs to the students.

Gold Jewellery Substitute found by BFGI

Baba Farid Senior Secondary School organized a Competition of Jewellery Making with Vegetables’ and ‘Flower Bouquet’ by Arts group to explore the hidden creative talent of the students, where more than 70 students participated. Students of the school dazed everybody by creating a whimsical piece of artwork on Jewellery with vegetables only.

Keeping in view the increasing price of the gold, BFSSS students used different vegetables like Carrots, Radish, Onions, Lemons, Lady Fingers and Peas etc. to make creative and unique ornaments like necklaces, earrings, broaches, bracelets and traditional ornaments.

Mr. B. D. Sharma, Head, Department of Career Guidance & Counseling and Mrs. Ranvir Kaur Brar, Head of Computer Department, BFC played the role of judges for the competition. In the Jewellery Making competition, Ramandeep Kaur and Sarbjeet Kaur from +1 Non. Medical got 1st prize.

Baba Farid Senior Secondary is a leading school in Malwa region. This is once again proved by the students at ‘District Level Competition’, was organized by the Punjab School Education Board, Mohali. The five districts Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, Sangrur and Mansa were participated in these competitions. The students of BFSSS held the flag of the school high by winning various positions in co curriculum items. Varinder Singh in Painting, Lovepreet Kaur in Good Hand writing, got 1^st position, Harmandeep Kaur stood 2^nd and Rashpreet won 3^rd position, at primary level. Seminar on ‘Road Safety Rules’ organized by BFGI

The number of accidents is escalating every day, to keep this in mind, Baba Farid Group of Institutions made an important attempt to make their students aware about the Road Safety by means of a seminar with the cooperation of Tara Automobiles, Bathinda (Maruti Suzuki Authorized Dealers).

Mr. Harpal Singh, Deputy Director Facility Management, BFGI laid emphasis on the need of Road Safety by giving statistics of accidents and young people, aging less than 25 years, being the major. He quoted that 10,000 young people die everyday world over due to accidents and about 5 times the number become disabled due to accidental injuries. He stated that though India is having 1% of the world vehicular population but contributes 10% of the accidents. These factors promoted to organize a safe Driving Seminar for Students.

Col. Rajinder Singh, Tara Automobiles, authorized Maruti Suzuki Dealer, gave information regarding importance and use of Road Signs and Road marking. He explained about the various causes of accidents and described the preventive measures. He recommended Defensive Driving to be a good and responsible driver. He added we should, use of calmness to avoid road rages. He also informed that they are running 'Maruti Driving School' to train the youngsters about safe driving rules.

CCD selected 37 BFGI’s students for 6 months training on stipend basis at Mumbai

Café Coffee Day (CCD), the largest organized retail café chain in the country, visited the campus for selections of BBA final year students for 6 month training program. In Malwa region, this is first time, when a company is providing training on stipend basis.

Mr. Gaurav Agre, HR Manager, CCD along with his team visited the campus. The selection procedure started off with direct one to one interview round. The company officials were overwhelmed to see the performance of the students. As a result 37 students were selected for 6 month training program at Mumbai on stipend basis, Rs.5000 (minimum) per month, along with free accommodation and food facilities. Baba Farid College became the champion of ‘Inter Zonal Cricket tournament’ was organized at Baba Farid College. The team won this title twice with their hard team work. The Chief Guest of the tournament was Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, MD BFGI.

There were 4 teams participated in this tournament. First Semi final was played between Patel College Rajpura and Baba Farid College, Deon and Second Semi final held between Punjabi Uni., Patiala and Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib. The Final match was played between Baba Farid College and Punjabi Uni., in which BFC team scored 144 in 20 overs and restricted the team of Punjabi Uni. Patiala on 133. Karan, captain of the team gave the glory to his team’s hard work for this victory. Karan was the best performer with 45 scores.

Mr. Dhaliwal applauded the team on their victory and motivated the students for such more achievements in their life and announced the cash prizes to the winner team. Verka Milk Plant, Bathinda was commissioned in September, 1974 with a total outlay of Rs. 1.6 Crores by the Punjab Dairy Dev. Corporation limited. Milk Plant set up with a twin objective of providing remunerative milk market for producers in this area and also supplies good quality milk products to the consumers at reasonable rates. It is the leading brand providing milk products all over Punjab. Ghee, Table Butter, Skimmed Milk Powder, Whole Milk Powder, Curd, Paneer, Milk Cake etc are being manufactured by this plant.

Mr. B. K. Singh, Production Manager, Verka introduced the students to the technical aspects of the working in the plant other breath-taking technological facts. Students looked at various aspects of the process with great deal of enthusiasm & were impressed with the excellent management of the plant. They even expressed their gratefulness towards the institute for providing them with such an opportunity. Dr. Krishan Kumar, Former Counselor, S.I.E, Chandigarh and Prof Nirmal Dutt, Former HoD, English, D.A.V College Chandigarh were the keynote speakers for the occasion. Mr B.D Sharma, HoD, Career Guidance and Counseling welcomed the speakers.

Inaugurating the session, Mr. B.D Sharma said that it was important for students to pursue the course that suited them; he exhorted the students to choose a career in line with their aptitude and interest.

Dr. Krishan Kumar, Former Counselor, S.I.E, Chandigarh gave a very informative talk to make the students aware of various career options ahead. He spoke on opportunities in the fields of engineering, medicine, law, research in fundamental sciences, defense, IT, hotel management and design available in India and foreign countries. He said students should chose career options based on their abilities and the goal of every educational institute should be to provide the best talents to the various industries by reducing labor-job mismatch, and helping students to assess the best career options for them.

BFGI started career guidance program in 2006.It is a two tier programme – Guidance sessions run from October to March and after that counseling session lasts until July. Personal counseling is done after testing the aptitude of the students. The programme got an overwhelming response from the students. Inspired by the success BFGI decided to make this test available to a larger audience online. Free online aptitude test was introduced by the institute in June 2011 which will help the youth assess opportunities for a suitable career. BFGI has supplemented the Online Aptitude test with a career guidance programme with personal counseling provided by the Department of Career Guidance and Counseling. With an aim to channelize the youth towards their career choices the institute has taken the initiative to provide this facility free of cost to students who cannot avail such counseling elsewhere due to the heavy costs involved. The students who come for admission in any course are first advised to take this aptitude test so that they can make a right career choice.

Continuing its endeavor Department of Training & Placement organized industrial visit to Aarti international Ltd, Ludhiana for students of MBA on 30^th August, 2011.

Aarti International has an installed capacity of 1,73,000 spindles including 57,000 spindles of compact yarn. This unit with its State of Art technology has emerged as a global player in the spinning industry. While the group has expanded manifold in its steel and yarn business, it has never ignored its duties towards the nation. The group has been awarded with “Spirituality at Work place Award” being run by an International Spirituality at Work Place Society USA.

The visit was a part of the exposure requirement of the academic curriculum and fulfilling this requirement was Mr. S. K. The quiz competition was oriented towards increasing the awareness of students. About 15 students participated in the quiz with great zeal. Team Wordsworth - Maninder Singh , Rajveer Kaur, Sukhveer Kaur emerged winners in a thrilling competition, hands down with great presence of mind beating the four teams who were on the fray. Pradeep Sra was born on March 30, 1992 in a family of performing artists in village Azam wala (Fazilka) and started performing as early as in Nursery class. His father, Prakash Sra is a talented folk singer and mother Amrit Sra, a teacher by profession is also a theatre artist. Pradeep bagged a gold medal in the college Youth festival for singing. Baba Farid Group of Institutions is overjoyed at the selection of Pradeep Sra, student of B.C.A III year as one of the five finalists of Voice of Punjab, PTC Punjabi talent hunt show. He has been shortlisted as one of the top five singers after a series of competitions among budding Punjabi singers from all over the country. He was amongst the 6 finalists in Voice of Punjab last year.

Pradeep Sra was born in a family of performing artists on March 30, 1992 in village Azam wala (Fazilka) and started performing as early as in Nursery class. His father, Prakash Singh Sra is a talented folk singer and mother, Amrit Sra is also an artist, besides serving as a teacher in a school. Pradeep bagged a gold medal in the college Youth festival for singing. Besides singing, he actively participates in Skits, Drama and Choreography. Camp held to educate students about drug abuse and drinking

A camp was organized at Baba Farid Group of Institutions to counsel students about the abuses of drugs and drinking by De - addiction Centre of Civil Hospital, Bathinda. Large number of students and staff members participated in the camp.

A special discourse on the issue of drug abuse and drinking was also held on the occasion. Staff and students were apprised about the abuses of drugs and drinking by Mr. Roop Singh Mann, Project Co-ordinator, De - addiction Centre of Civil Hospital, Bathinda. During the interaction various aspects of drug abuse were discussed. Mr. Mann highlighted that among the school going children there is an alarming rise in solvent abuse including Whitener correction fluid, petrol, shoe polish etc. He said that youth are most vulnerable part of any society; teachers and parents should keep a check on the children during this age to prevent them from falling prey to such dangers. Mr. Mann appreciated the efforts of the institute to make its campus drug addiction free.

BFGI organizes Talent Hunt for School Students

Students of Class XI and Class XII participated in this competition. The event intended to promote competition and creativity amongst students. The singers enchanted the audience with their melodious voice. Elocution participants spoke on various topics like Female foeticides, use of cellphones, uses and abuses of technology and use of polythene bags.

Keeping up with its endeavor to provide jobs to the youth, Baba Farid Group of Institutions organized it’s second Mega Job Fair at its campus today. Mr. D.S Bains, Principal Secretary, Home Affairs and Justice, Govt of Punjab was the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony of the Mega Job Fair.
BFGI had designed the venture with an aim to provide job opportunities to students from Punjab as well as Haryana, Delhi & NCR Region, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The Job Fair witnessed an over-whelming response from job seekers and companies from across the region. Free transportation was provided to the candidates by the institute.
43 companies visited the campus to recruit Undergraduate, Graduate and Post Graduate students and provide exciting career opportunities to them. As many as 1627 job seekers from various universities and colleges participated in the Job Fair. 430 candidates were shortlisted by various companies.

Educational Trip to All India Radio, Bathinda

As a part of its endeavor to impart practical knowledge to students in terms of Industry visits BFGI organized an educational trip for the students of Class 12th of Baba Farid Senior Secondary School to All India Radio, Bathinda . Under the efficient supervision of the executives of AIR they visited different sections of All India Radio. The educational visit provided a great learning experience to the students. In the end, the students were briefed on various topics ranging from internship procedure to placement in the respective organization.

170 applicants walked in for interviews at the campus of Baba Farid Group in Bathinda. The HCL Team was highly impressed by the great passion and enthusiasm of the applicants.

HCL [ Hindustan Computer Limited] is a global Electronics, Computing and IT company based in Noida, India. The company comprises two publicly listed companies, HCL Technologies and HCL Infosystems.

Aspirants were first examined and their skills measured through a group discussion conducted by Ms Monica, Head HR, HCL infosystems and as an upshot 40 students were shortlisted for an interview. After a round of interviews 12 candidates were recruited by the company.

The aim of the conference is to bring academicians, business leaders, professionals and industrialists on a common platform to share views, expectations, and apprehensions and to analyze experiences of various strategical issue and prospects of business development. The conference received an overwhelming response and many eminent scholars participated in this conference from far and wide.

The conference is inaugurated by the honourable Chief Guest Mr. Harish Mehta, former CFO of Gini & Jony kids wear, and presently, an Independent Management Consultant for some leading retail brands of India. The Managing Director, Baba Farid Group of Institutions, S. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal welcomed the guests, delegates, faculty and students. He interacted with the teachers as well as students separately and with his innovative thoughts, he motivated them to achieve the right goal of the life.

The book of abstracts of the conference was also released on the occasion which included some abstracts in the field of management. At the end of inaugural session, Dr. Manish Bansal, Director-Principal, BFCMT presented vote of thanks the Guests, delegates, and students. With the aim to assist and contribute in the production and development of top quality professional engineers and technicians needed by the industries and other organizations, Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology on 31^st March, 2011 launched the Chapter of ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education). ISTE is a national, professional, non-profit making society established with the aim to advance the cause of Technological education. On this launching ceremony, Mrs. Paramjeet Kaur Dhaliwal Director-Administration, BFGI was present as a chief Guest. While speaking on this occasion, she expressed that it is surely the hall-mark and an achievement to be proud of. She congratulated Dr. Jasbir Singh Hundal, Director-Principal, BFCET and his team for this achievement. She also congratulated Mrs.Amandeep Kaur (Dean Students Welfare) for organizing this function. Speaking on this occasion. Dr. Jasbir Singh Hundal pondered to the requirement of this Chapter and expressed that it would enable the students and the faculty members to cultivate a spirit of learning, while maintaining an effective linkage between technical institution, industry & the society. He also herald the launching of the programme as he commented that it foster research as a function complementary to teaching.. Today on 28-03-2011, Baba Farid College of Management & Tehnology, Bathinda organized ‘Splash- 2011’ in order to mark the creativity of the students and to insert the spirit of competition among the students. Director-Principal Dr.Manish Bansal, Deputy- Director S. Harpal Singh of BFGI, Head, Dept.of Training & Placement, Mr. Gaurav Garg, Mrs. Yogesh Bajaj, and Heads of the departments Neetu Singh and Deepika Bansal illuminated the lamps. The event compromised number of items, including Business Collage, Presentations, Skit, Mimicry, Extempore, Song Compitetion, Role Play, Professional fashion show and Group dance. The students brilliantly performed on the stage in every event.

The event started with the presentations by the students on the various topics like IT, automobiles, telecom, retail and banking. The students demonstrated their talent and spontaneousl in an event of extempore ‘Just a min’.

In order to beautify the environment Neha, Ravinder, Gopal, Harvinder delighted the audiences with beautiful Punjabi and Hindi numbers. They mesmerized the spectators with their lovely songs.

In the role play event, the students showed their managerial skills. The participants of Group-I stressed on ‘Selling is an art’, whereas Group-II portrayed the qualities of ‘Good ManagerVs Bad Manager’. And the contestants of Group-III highlighted the differences between ‘Good Interview and Bad Interview’.

A professional fashion show was also organized where the students gracefully walked on the ramp in their professional attire. In the skit competition, the participants satire on the social issues like unemployment.

Jatinder from MBA showed his skills in mimicry and made the audience to laugh at heart.

Deputy-Director Harpal Singh encouraged the students to participate in such events and to improve their skills. In the end Director-Principal Dr. Manish Bansal motivated the students to come up with more such events which could develop their skills and talent.

Department of English, Baba Farid College organised a trip to Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala and Sultanpur Lodhi for the students of MA English on 19/03/2011. Science City is the biggest project of its kind in Northern India, the Science City has been set up in 72 acres of land in the of heart of Punjab, on Jalandhar- Kapurthala Road. It is intended to inculcate the scientific aptitude & temperament, to fire the imagination and creativity, foster the spirit of enquiry and exploration among the masses, especially in the young minds. The students visited various sections viz. Space Theatre, Laser Theatre, Flight Simulator, Space & Aviation, Energy Park, Health Gallery, Virtual Reality, Dinosaurs Park, Fun Science, Boating etc.

The students also visited the historic city of Sultanpur Lodhi. Places visited include Gurudwara Ber Sahib, Gurudwara Hatt Sahib, Gurudwara Bebe Nanaki. The students also visited Nirmal Kutiya set up by Sant Balbir Singh Seecheval in the idyllic surrounds of Bein river.

In the Beginning 2^nd year students gave warm welcome to their seniors. First of all various games were conducted. Students of IInd year gave cultural performances. Talent show was conducted by final year students and on the basis of performance, Mr. and Miss Farewell were chosen by respective judges. Managing Director S. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Director Admin Mrs. Paramjit Kaur Dhaliwal and Associate Director Dr. Pardeep Kaura graced the occasion with their benign presence. Managing Director S.
